Before we begin the meditation, let’s pick a tree that we would like to become. You can look around, and choose one that is nearby, or bring to mind a tree that you have met in the past. Ideally, it’s a tree that you can put your arms around and rest your heart on its bark. Everyone have a tree?
Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. That’s right, just keep breathing and relaxing, letting your consciousness go deeper and deeper. Deep breathing will take you to that place of quiet and stillness. Just allow yourself to drop into that place of silence, deeper and deeper.
Now imagine or see your tree in front of you. Look at its beauty. Really notice its physical features – how tall it is, how big around, how full, its color, if it has leaves or needles or is bare. Open your heart and send your love and appreciation to this tree. Now approach the tree, and put your arms around it, resting your chest upon its trunk. Feel your heartbeat and see if you can feel the heartbeat of the tree. These heartbeats will come into resonance and start beating together.
Mentally ask the tree if you can merge your consciousness with it to understand it better. When you’ve heard or felt the tree’s agreement, allow your consciousness to gently make a shift and get inside the tree’s viewpoint.
What does it physically feel like to be this tree? Where is your energy concentrated? How does the trunk feel, the branches, the roots, the leaves or needles? Is each area different or is it all the same? What if a bird or animal walks on you – how does that feel? How does the wind and sun feel on your branches? How does the rain feel?
As this tree, what do you sense around you, and how do you do that? Do you hear anything and if so, what? How does hearing work? Do you have any sight? Is so, how does that work and what do you see? Is there a sense of smell? Spend a few minutes experiencing the physical world as this tree, noticing how you get information.
Let’s ask this tree a few questions to get to know it even better.
How does this tree feel about the other trees in the area? Is there a difference between the same species and others?
What is your favorite season and why?
What animals do you like?
What type of weather do you enjoy? Why?
How do you feel about people?
What’s the best thing about being a tree?
Why did you choose to incarnate now as a tree?
How old are you?
What is your concept of spirituality?
Is there anything else you’d like to tell me?
Thank this tree for merging with you and giving you so much information and understanding. Know that you can visit again in this way, anytime. Withdraw your consciousness from the tree, bringing your energy back into your human body. Feel yourself coming back completely, once again in your human body. Wiggle your toes and fingers and when you’re ready, you can open your eyes. Mary Getten
